First time schools will have preference over repeat schools. Note: The maximum number of children per program day is 75. If your group is larger, please make two separate requests.

What a Teacher needs to know about Bus Grants for the Docent-Led Children's Program
The Torrey Pines Docent Society wants to afford the experience for school children that normally wouldn't have the transportation funds to take a field trip to Torrey Pines State Reserve. Bus Grants are provided to qualifying schools in need of transportation funds up to $125.00 per visit for a bus. Any amount over this must be cleared with the Director or Coordinator of the Children's Program.
All Bus Grants must be pre-approved before a school makes a trip to the Reserve. Typically, Title 1 schools qualify for a Bus Grant.
Bus Grants are only provided for schools requesting field trips on Docent-led program days, which are Thursday and Friday mornings only, September-May.
If a Bus Grant is approved, please make sure there are approximately 60 children (same grade level or adjacent level) scheduled for the trip. The Docents will not provide funds for a large bus with only one classroom (20 children or so.)
If you think your school might qualify for a Bus Grant, then:
- Email your request to the Coordinator of the Docent-Led Children's Program at:
Childrensprogram@torreypine.org. All grants will be verified by return email.
If you receive a Bus Grant from the Torrey Pines Docent Society:
- You must schedule and make your own arrangements for a bus with your district or another certified bus company for the date of your visit. Best to schedule 3-6 months ahead in order to get a bus for your date.
- To Receive Reimbursement: After your visit, you must submit a copy of your transportation form, indicating school name, teacher's name, date of visit and cost of bus. Please indicate whom to make the check out to and mailing address. Mail your Reimbursement Request to:

- Reimbursement takes up to 2 weeks. We will send you a check covering up to $125.00 of your transportation expense. Any difference would need to be made up by your school. Email the coordinator with any questions.
