Enoclerus sp. Checkered beetle

Adult: 6-8mm.

Order Coleoptera/ Family Cleridae – Checkered beetles

These beetles are considered beneficial as predators. The spindle-shaped larvae with dark head and thorax are found in the galleries of bark beetles where they feed on eggs, larvae and adults. Adult Enoclerus also prey on adults of bark beetles but are at times found on flowers of such plants as Eriogonum fasciculatum, Flat-topped buckwheat, and Sambucus mexicanum, Southern blue elderberry. There are many species of Enoclerus and new species are brought to light in the scientific community as more study is made of our forests.
