Snowy Egret

(Egretta thula)

The Snowy Egret can be identified by its black bill with yellow base and black legs with yellow feet. While its length is about 20 inches, its wingspan can reach 40 inches. They can commonly been seen in the lagoon area stirring the mudding bottoms with their feet to flush out a meal. They will also hover over the lagoon and make plummeting dives into the water to catch fish. In the past, the Snowy Egret was a common victim to the hat plumage industry. Now its suffers from a shrinking habitat.
