American Wigeon

(Anas americana)

The American Wigeon is also known as the Baldpate because of the drake's white forehead and crown. The males have a notable green strip from the eye to the back of the head. These ducks have a three whistle sound. While they usually feed by tipping for aquatic grasses, snails, and beetles, they will wait on the surface for other duck species surface and snatch their food. This explains their other name 'Poacher'.
